Parents and children

Temporary dentition

The majority of children have their teeth grown until the age of 2-3, and at the age of about 6-7 they start replacing it with the final one. The health of the teeth influences the general state of health. Don’t neglect it, even if it is about temporary teeth.

The appropriate toothpaste and toothbrush?

Before the eruption of the first temporary teeth, it is recommended to clean the gums of the baby after each meal with sterile tissue and water. After the first teeth start to appear (6 months) it is recommended to start brushing the teeth only with water, with a special brush and toothpaste (special for each age). The quantity of toothpaste shouldn’t be more than the size of a pea. It is recommended to renew the toothbrush every three months. The child needs to be assisted and helped by the parents to brush correctly, twice a day, for 3 to 5 minutes. The personal example is very important!

Nutrition

It is very important that the diet of the child is rich in food which contains calcium and protein (fruits, vegetables, dairy products, rice and whole cereals, eggs, chicken and fish meat.

Fizzy drinks

These juices have a high level of harmful substances which attack the tooth’s enamel: sugar, citric acid, ascorbic acid, carbon dioxide. Drinking a lot of carbonated drinks or even natural juices from citric and forest fruits can produce enamel erosion.

Fluoridation

It prevents the cavity lesions and helps in the remineralizing of incipient lesions. The fluoridation done in the dental office implies applying the fluoride as a lacquer (for children under 4 years old) or gels (for children over 4 years old) and is applied only after a professional dental cleaning. This is recommended especially to children who have a high risk of developing cavities, children with diseases which affect the saliva flux and children who are undergoing an orthodontic treatment.

The sealing of the teeth

When the first final molars erupt, the doctors recommend them to be sealed (this procedure is done on teeth that are not affected yet by cavities). It aims at protecting the fosse and grooves of the tooth (these are the tooth’s anatomical shapes which favor the accumulation of food remains, leading to the development of cavities). The sealing is a non-invasive procedure which is preceded by a dental cleaning and fluoridation and it implies the application of a special material, which acts like a barrier against pathogen agents which cause cavities.

Mothers and pregnant women

Ideally, dentists recommend that women who have dental problems should solve all of them before getting pregnant. This is because pregnancy creates the favorable circumstances in which dental emergencies can appear, and they need treatments that are usually inadequate for a pregnant woman. Pregnancy produces constant hormonal changes, being able also to cause dental problems. The health of the mother and child are very important and having in mind the sensitive situation of a pregnant woman, we emphasize on prophylactics.

Teeth Whitening

Regarding cosmetic treatments it is recommended to avoid teeth whitening during pregnancy. It is not because it can have side effects, but because of the uncertainty that surrounds the effects on the baby of the substances used. Presently there are no scientific studies which can certify if these procedures have or not a negative effect on pregnancy. That is why, it is recommended to avoid such procedures during pregnancy.

Dental X-ray

X-Rays should be avoided during pregnancy, but if it is absolutely necessary to have one, it can be done safely by taking extra precautions, especially in the first trimester of the pregnancy. It is important to consult the specialist for finding solutions and alternatives. While breastfeeding, x-rays present no risks.

Local Anaesthetics and Antibiotics

During pregnancy these are recommended to be used only in case of emergencies and only with the approval of your gynecologist. While breastfeeding, there is no risk of contamination or risk for the baby, because our clinic uses only substances that are certified not to have side any repercussions.
